180 miles of Motoring fun! Mostly wide two-lane Farm-to-Market and Ranch Roads, asphalt paved. No gravel. Via Blanco, Luckenbach, Johnson City, and Dripping Springs. An all day trip if you have fun and stop. Start at Cabela's, 15570 S Interstate 35, Buda, TX 78610, and back to Cabela's, Buda - Google Maps Recommended stops: Blanco: The Redbud Cafe Luckenbach: Luckenbach Dance Hall Fredericksburg: Wineries, Deutschedisneyland, shopping, good German food, shopping, and the National Museum of the Pacific War Johnson City: Stuff, LBJ National Park, great beef jerky Dripping Springs: The Barber Shop, for Texas craft beer and a game of washers, but no haircuts. Driftwood: The Salt Lick (not the absolute best BBQ in the State, but still very good with a great experience, and a great way to end the day!)
Well, I drove it again just yesterday, but I really just posted it for an anytime drive. Maybe it could be tweaked into an event. Hmm...
Any interest in a two-day gimmick rally type affair, with an option for just a single day for those who only want to drive? Low key, self-arranged accommodations.
And then there's this event put on by the Metroplex Mini people: [ame="http://www.metroplexmini.org/forum/showpost.php?p=526745&postcount=4"]4th Annual Motoring through the Hills of Texas will be October 5th and 6th 2012[/ame]
If you do lemme know and I might be up for a Caravan.. Also.... .....I think that route is called the "Devils Backbone" by the motorcycle crew....
Devil's Backbone is just south of this route from San Marcos to Blanco, using RM 12 and 32. It's a nice route, wider and less twisty than it was in the "old days" (pre Canyon Lake development explosion). It still goes through Fischer, which is sort of a Luckenbach for Baptists. ;-)
Ah, Ill have to update my map then. Just heard about it from word of mouth. Im somewhat new here in the empire of Texas soIm still learning
I'm told that Black's BBQ in Lockhart is very, very good BBQ - but I haven't been. 'Course, that's in the wrong direction from Buda.
Blacks is excellent, as good as the best in Lockhart, with a better sides selection. Less of an "event" to dine at (which is both good and bad). It's "on the way to Buda" for many. ;-)
Smittys and Kreuz Market are awesome to grab and go. Black's is a better place to have a seat and chow down.
