Hi everyone new to the forum it’s good to see so many people helping each other out with problems. I bought my wife a 2007 cooper s from my friend it sat for 1.5 years with timing chain issues so I replaced everything and took the head off and done the valves etc only had it started briefly so will be back at the garage on Tuesday to test further hopefully everything is ok and resetting the adaptions I’ve read about, no doubt I will be on probably annoying people thanks everyone. Then it may need a carbon blasting of the valves if it has never been sone before.

I did all the valves lapped them in inlet valves weren’t leaking but I stripped them out cleaned all the carbon lapped them anyway, the head had a 2 thou discrepancy so had the very minimum skimmed at the machine shop.

Once you get the new timing chain parts in it , it will be a reliable motor...my 2009 has 92K and has never been apart - although it did get all the new timing chain parts just before it went out of warranty at 50K
