I got a new car. It really is @00Mini fault. He feeds my BAT addiction. Before anyone thinks I am spending super big money I am not. Yesterday my wife and I were at a home show, the ford dealer parks cars in the driveway of each house during the show. Anyway there was a Mustang GT there, just a plan Jain GT, it was almost the same price of what I paid. So with that our of the way, I got my dream car. I have wanted one since high school. It’s a 1978 Ferrari 308GTS. I have been watching them on BAT for several years now. Some like the Quattrovalvole go for crazy money. So about a little more that a week ago one action was coming to an end, I did not plan to watch it end but I did. At the 2 min mark it was very low. I knew if I did not bid I would kick myself but my CFO was at work, not keeping me out of trouble, her main job. I texted frantically to see what she would say. I was given the ok to make a bid. I made 3 bids. As I watched the time count down I little panic set in, I might win! Well I did! I can’t believe the car went so low. I told the CFO I would part with the Lotus. She has since said I don’t have to if I don’t want. She said I did a lot of work on it to let it go. So we will see. I did not want fuel infection, I wanted the 4 carbs. I would have liked to have a euro version. This one is a U.S. car with euro bumpers and front spoiler. And best of all some previous owner put a euro motor in it! I have a lot of history on the car but there are some gaps. I hope to research it and fill in the gaps. The car needs the timing belts replaced, they should come in today. I will be doing all the work on the car so that will really help keep the cost down. The belts were only $35 each.
If’n you’d kept it outside cocooned in plastic wrap everything would have been ok but you went and put it in the garage and the watch cat thought there was an intruder….and the rest is history.
Great car Lee! I've always liked those. Although I'm waiting on a cheap 1963 250 GTO, no not a Pontiac. If you see one let me know. As far as those scratches go they don't look very deep. You may be able to polish them out. Before beginning measure the paint thickness.
Great advice. I did not think of measuring the paint. I tried buffing it by hand in a small spot but some of the scratches may have to be wet sanded. But I don’t want to do that if posable
Get some of that "shine juice" that Derek Bieri uses on HIS finds...works every time. By the way, Derek Bieri has a show on Motor Trend called Roadworthy Rescues.
Since you don't know how far you can go, consult a high end detailer to either ask advice or have him do the paint correction. It may cost a bit, but it will be much less than a quality repaint. Proceed cautiously. I hope your cat survives this. I like cats, but this would test me....
